Inserting Subscripts and Superscripts

For mac users who still operate Word 2004, there is no button on the toolbar that allows you to easily type using subscripts and superscripts like the newer versions of Word have. However, here is simple trick that will allow you to use subscripts and superscripts in a quick and easy manner.

Subscript: Hold down the apple key as well as the (+=) key and then type what you want to be in subscripts. To get out of this function, simply hit the apple key and the (+=) buttons again and resume typing as normal.

Superscript: Hold down the shift key, the apple key, and the (+=) key and then type what you want to be in superscripts. To get out of this function, simply hit the shift key, apple key, and (+=) buttons again and resume typing as normal.

There are some great ways to save time and make your work easier. They are keyboard shortcuts! Below are some of the most common that you might want to use. (Command is the cloverleaf key)

command+Z=Undo
command+S=Save
command+A=Select all

command+P=Print
command+Q=Closes a program

command+C=Copy
command+X=Cut
command+V=Paste

command+B=Bold
command+I=Italicize
command+U=Underline

command+L=Align text left
command+E=Align text center
command+R=Align text right

command+T=opens a new tab in a web browser
command+D=Bookmarks a web page

F11 (may be command+F3 on laptop)= hides all windows and shows only the desktop (press it again, and the windows come up again)

Trick of the Week (September 1st) - “Right clicking” on Macs

One complaint about macs is that the mouse-pad (”trackpad”) does not have a right-click button. However, with a few simple and quick steps, you can set up your mac trackpad to easily “right click.”

1) From the dock, click on system preferences.
2) Click on keyboard and mouse.
3) Check the box next to “Clicking” and then check the box next to “Tap trackpad using two fingers for secondary click.”
4) Test that you have set it up correctly by moving your mouse off of the keyboard and mouse window and tapping two fingers at a time on the trackpad.

An optional way to right click is to hold down the “ctrl” button and push down on the trackpad.

Getdropbox is a great tool for backing up and sharing files. This software creates a folder on your computer that synchronizes its contents with an online drop box plus any other computers that share access to the drop box. If you use a Mac and a PC, you could install and configure this on both machines and then place your files in the drop box folder that you need on both machines. The files will automatically be uploaded to a secure online repository and your other computer will be immediately updated with the new files. This application also supports file sharing between different getdropbox users and image sharing.
